Welcome to our travel blog series where we take you on an incredible journey through the heart of New York City. Whether you're a seasoned traveller or planning your first trip, our experiences will offer you some great insights and tips. Here's a recap of our adventure, from the initial excitement to the final farewell.
Part 1: The Arrival
We kicked off our adventure with a luxurious business class flight from London Heathrow to Newark. The journey was smooth, with delicious food and top-notch service making the flight enjoyable. Upon landing, we hopped into a Lyft and made our way to the Intercontinental Times Square, our home away from home.
Our first day was all about exploring the iconic Times Square. The vibrant atmosphere, the neon lights, and the bustling crowd were captivating. We indulged in our first New York pizza slice, which was every bit as delicious as we'd hoped. The evening was spent enjoying beers and chicken wings before heading back to Times Square to experience its magic after dark. A visit to the Disney store rounded off a perfect first day.
Part 2: Sky-High Adventures
Our second day started with a hearty breakfast at a traditional American diner, where the portions were generous and the service quick. Fuelled up, we headed to the Empire State Building, ascending to the 80th, 86th, and 102nd floors. The views were simply breathtaking, offering a panoramic look at the city.
Next, we stopped by Macy's, where Tim found a new wallet that fits American bills. After a delightful lunch at an Irish pub, where we might have enjoyed a few too many beers, we took an afternoon nap back at the hotel. The day concluded with a sumptuous meal at Club A Steakhouse, celebrating Tim's birthday in style.
Part 3: Historical and Cultural Gems
Day three saw us heading to the Intrepid Museum, located on an old aircraft carrier. This museum was a highlight, featuring iconic aircraft like the Concorde and even a Space Shuttle. Reflecting on our Empire State Building visit, we also compared it to other observation decks we’d been to, including The Edge, Top of the Rock, and One World Trade Center.
After the museum, we enjoyed another classic New York pizza before taking a leisurely stroll through Central Park. The day ended with a fantastic performance of "Little Shop of Horrors" at the West Side Theatre, starring Evan Rachel Wood and Darren Criss. It was a shorter vlog as we wanted to enjoy Tim’s birthday, but still packed with fun.
Part 4: The Grand Finale
In our final vlog, we ventured downtown via the iconic New York City subway. Our first stop was The Battery, where we took in the views of the Statue of Liberty and reminisced about our previous visit to its crown. We wandered around Wall Street and admired the impressive Brooklyn Bridge.
Despite the rainy weather, we explored Chinatown and Little Italy, although we stayed outdoors to avoid getting too wet. Our day concluded at the World Trade Center memorial, a poignant and reflective experience. We wrapped up our New York adventure with some beers and pizza uptown before heading home.
Our New York trip was filled with unforgettable moments and fantastic experiences. From iconic landmarks to delicious food, and from cultural highlights to reflective moments, the city truly has something for everyone. We hope our journey inspires you to explore New York and create your own memories.
